I read that yesterday. I have mixed feelings. I think it’s hard to find the right line on porn for sure. There’s so much terrible misogynistic stuff that I wish wasn’t out there. It’s a dialectic. A lot of porn is bad and banning porn is bad. We live in such a sex negative society that I understand why those of us on the left are cautious to add to it and resent the idea that it’s because we don’t want to be seen as uncool. It’s bigger than that. I also think we can’t give those currently in charge any leeway on the first amendment because they will abuse it. I will always fall back on education. We have to teach people to be good consumers of porn. But I recognize that won’t necessarily help the people who are making it. Sorry the answer wasn’t more straightforward.
I'd be interested to hear your take on this recent NYT op ed https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/19/opinion/pornography-harm-society.html?campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20250519&instance_id=154826&nl=the-morning®i_id=172063422&segment_id=198230&user_id=0c31fa2087b9197542f74c6e9bd3ee8c
and then this linked substack post as well https://substack.com/home/post/p-161405272
